Nostalgia

2004

The concept for this proposed installation is based on the idea of moving backwards on a moving sidewalk in order to stay in the same place. The structure of a 'wave of nostalgia' is examined through time, highlighting the element of impossibility. At the end of a dark corridor, a door stands ajar, child-like melody and soft light faintly streaming in. Forward movement of the viewer triggers motion-sensors to start closing the door, while backward movement opens it again. Effectively, in this tantalizing experience, the viewer can never cross the threshold and reach what lies on the other side of the door.
