Winner of Edmonton’s Top Choice Beauty Spa of 2023

The project called for an “out of this world” experience within the New Skin Laser Studio skincare clinic waiting room, thematically related to the brand. The installation was inspired by the process of ecdysis (molting; animals shedding skin), resulting in a space that itself conceptually “sheds” layers of skin, experienced in movement through a sequence of spaces. These peeling layers of primed CNC’d MDF panels play with the cellular voronoi pattern found in nature. LED lights add colour to the otherwise white-on-white layers, creating drama within the dim space. A central seating island / shadow lantern projects the pattern upwards, “dissolving” the T-bar ceiling grid.

Location: Edmonton, Canada

Area: 24 sqm / 260 sqft
